2014 Pizza Pizzazz Wrap Up
Big props to this year’s crop of pizza makers who outlasted more than 125 bakers to win the 2014 Pizza Pizzazz competition. The first place recipient in each competition received a cash prize of $6,000. The second place recipients received $1,000 and third place winners pocketed $500 for their culinary talents.
Garnering first place in the gourmet competition was Jordan Henson, Gatti's Pizza, located in Portsmouth, Ohio, who delighted judges with her submission of the Italian Sub pizza. Cindy Hamlin, of Capone's Pizzeria in Parma, Ohio, secured second place with her submission of Chicken Bacon Ranch pizza. Third place honors went to Valley City, Ohio’s Jason Somasky of Samosky's Homestyle Pizzeria, who submitted the Spinachi pizza.
In the traditional competition, this year’s winner was Shawn Dugan, Shorty's Pizzeria, located in Parkersburg, West Virginia, with his submission of the Manzo pizza. Jason Hague of Bada Bing! Pizzeria in Springfield, Ohio, captured second place for his Goombah pizza. Taking home third place honors was Cindy Hamlin of Capone's Pizzeria in Parma, Ohio, who won over judges with her submission of the Classic pizza.
