Did You Know: Ethanol subsidies are pushing up food costs
Did you know that the U.S. government’s 45 cents per gallon subsidy for ethanol is driving up your food costs?
In September, 16 restaurant chains signed a letter to the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction in Washington, D.C., requesting the subsidy’s end. Higher ethanol use pressures corn supplies, which boosts food commodities costs and trims restaurateurs’ profits.
The tax credit is set to expire Dec. 31, but restaurateurs are concerned it will be renewed.
Make your opinion known by calling your senators and representatives in Washington.
And when we convene for NAPICS January 29-30, perhaps we’ll toast an end to this costly subsidy!
